It is important to understand here that the battle of Kurukshetra is a battle that is fought in every human heart and mind. Therefore the historical authenticity of the battle is of no significance for us. Our concern is with the message of the Bhagavad Gita and the way modern man can benefit from its great teachings. We are in search of certain specifics, and this verse explains what the battle is really about, where it takes place, and why it should be fought. Sri Krishna says that desire clouds human intelligence and controls the mind and senses. Therefore one must learn to have full control of his desires, which are the prime enemy. We have already explained that this refers to the desires that distract and dissipate the energy of the sadhaka. Sri Krishna tells Arjuna to kill that evil desire with the sword of discrimination.
