Social anxiety disorder – Causes, Symptoms and Treatments

If you're going on a date for the first time with someone you've never met before, and you're feeling uneasy and having butterflies in your stomach, it's completely normal, but if you're in your office meeting, at a wedding, or a family gathering and you are not comfortable and feeling extreme fear for any social setting, then you are struggling with Social anxiety disorder which is also known as Social phobia.


Many children often complain that they do not want to go to school, some people give something miss of to go to any kind of crowd or social events, then it is a social anxiety disorder, in which people often get nervous or restless in the social environment, wherever there are around eight to ten are engaging together in anything, whether it is an office meeting or a family function, people who affected by social anxiety always feel fear in that situation.



So they all the time afraid of “Are they looking at me”, “if I will say something that everyone starts making fun of me”. “I should not do stand in this way” so that I will not get insulted in front of everyone, when people go with this type of overthinking consistently, sometimes they feel some symptoms of physical pain too. Such as sweating, nervousness, restlessness, palpitations, stomach distress, trembling of the hands or nausea, are the common indication of Social anxiety disorder, so they try to avoid the social setting.


And gradually the density of these symptoms increase and they start avoiding going to social settings, people stop going to marriages, official meetings, Schools. Because they tend to have anxiety in speaking or performing in front of others, such people always in the position of self-judging, they overly scrutinize their behaviour in every little thing, like how they eat, chew, walk, sit, stand and so on, they keep thinking about their everyday movements about these things.


Social anxiety disorder is a type of mental disorder. There are many reasons behind it. It can be affected by our Genetic code, the environment in which we are living, it can be the reason of how their parent's behaviour with them, or they might be the result of the exposure with and SAD patients, and of course, biological factors can't be denied. Let's understand how it affects a human beings' daily life.


Going to buy goods – they don't want to for any kind of shopping, because when they surrounded with the people who are known to unknown they got anxious, which hamper their focus from shopping, like, what exactly they can to buy, now there is just on themselves only


Meeting new people – It is very difficult for such people to meet new people in their school, office or any situation, interaction with them because it aggravates their anxiety levels.


Talking on the phone - Making any kind of appointment or reservation by talking on the phone is a very challenging task for them because they about that how they sound to other people.


Reply to the message – while replying to any message makes them anxious, as they tend to overthink, about what he will text to the person and how to write it, and what will be the reaction of another person after reading my message, so they often start avoiding to answering messages on the phone.


Attending social events – Sometimes in a state of social anxiety, people also start feeling physical pain when they go to marriage or any kind of social setting that is why they keep away from going there.


Social anxiety starts developing in the sympathetic nervous system in the autonomic nervous system of a person which is part of the peripheral nervous system, when the level of catecholamine hormones is increased which leads to high blood pressure, excessive sweating, headaches, fast heartbeats, and tremors. So if the Social anxiety disorder is not treated on time it can cause Social phobia.


This can be treated on two levels, first with medicines and second with CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), the most beautiful example of CBT is, When Arjuna, in mythology, during the battle at Kurukshetra in the Mahabharata, seeing his brothers in the army standing in front of him for battle, he became very sad, he refused to fight, Lord Krishna explained to him.
