Good morning!!! There are so many ways you can choose to build confidence each day, and I’m about to give you yet another tool to have in your toolkit for any occasion where you may need it.
In challenging moments, I have trained myself to “channel” another person to help me get through the rough patch. I heard years ago that Beyoncé didn’t always feel confident before she would take the stage, so she would channel her inner Sasha Fierce. I liked that idea and have trained myself to channel different people in different situations when I need to.
No one knows I’m doing it, but it gives me one more tool and trick that I can use when I am in a pinch. When you are going into a situation that makes you feel nervous or discouraged, think about someone you know who would handle the situation flawlessly.
Maybe you are going to have a potentially difficult conversation with your spouse tonight, and you really don’t want to let your temper get the better of you. You can decide to channel your best friend who is always kind and loving and empathetic. Channeling that persona in that moment is a great way to help you visualize the situation going well ahead of time. Once you can see the situation unfolding well, it will set you up for success when it actually happens live.
Try to feel what that person would feel, imagine what it would be like if your friend was there to step in for you, and channel them the best you can.
This trick works surprisingly well and helps me to build my confidence in tough moments.
I have used this trick when I’ve had difficult situations to deal with at home, at work, at speaking engagements, and in countless other places.
To get the most out of this tool, all you need to do is take a moment to yourself to think about the situation and decide on the best person for the job – who will you channel? See it in your mind and put it into practice.
Who are you going to channel today?
